Ian Mckellen, one of the world’s most celebrated actors decides as an 80th birthday present to himself to go on a 12 month road trip. With a trunk full of props, a van and two ‘roadies’, Tom and Joe, they set out with his one man show to raise money for over 80 regional theatres across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. In total he raised £4.6 million. This film is an intimate account of his journey and a love letter to British Theatre.
